    Incorporated on September 08, 1975 as Rainbow Investments Limited in Calcutta (now know as
    The Promoters acquired Shamsher Sterling Corporation in 1976, name of the Company changed
  to Sterlite Cables Ltd.
    Registered Office shifted from Calcutta to Bombay (Mumbai) in the year 1979  
    In 1986, the Company was renamed as Sterlite Industries (India) Limited  
Sterlite Cables Limited, acquires the Shamsher Sterling Corporation, changes the name to Sterlite Industries ( India) Limited.
Sterlite Industries makes an initial public offering of its shares on the Indian stock exchange.
    - Sterlite Industries establishes India’s first continuous copper rod plant.  
    - Commissions first privately developed copper smelter in India at Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu.  
    - Acquires Copper Mines of Tasmania Pty Ltd.  
    - Acquires Thalanga Copper Mines Pty Ltd.  
    - Expansion of Tuticorin Smelter to 300,000 TPA and Successful ramp up of ISA furnace in a record period of 45 days.
